Grin Dental Software - Free Demo
You can test out Grin by downloading a free demo version which is the actual program
with some limits, and not a slide show. Evaluating actual software can be difficult
because must take a little time to learn it but then you get to really see how it works.
Slide show demos are easier but you never really see how it works.
Warning: existing users should never use the
demo cause it overwrites your grin data.
To use the demo follow these steps:
- Click demo@edvan.com to get a password
returned automatically by email,
it takes several hours (put Grin Demo as the subject)
- Click here to download the demo
install file to your computer (its 3 MB so it may take a awhile)
- Once demo file is downloaded, run it once only to install
GRIN onto your computer
- Optional: to see a
tutorial, right click GrinTutor_Mpeg4.avi
and 'save target as' to download
this 6 MB digital movie that plays in Windows Media Player (MP) but to keep file
size reasonable it uses something called Mpeg4-V2 codec which may not be on
your machine. Normally MP will download the codec if it needs to but that
requires a) internet connection b) recent version of MP and c) answer YES if
it asks if you want to download codec
More
detailed instructions follow:
The demo is free but does need a password. So send us an email (no message is needed)
and you should get an automatic reply within a couple hours with the password. Your email
helps us track who downloads and possibly provide nominal follow-up. If you never want to
hear from us just say so in the email.
You do not need the password to download and install GRIN as its only needed to run it
later. So while you are waiting for password in email you can download and setup the demo
as follows:
 | The download will transfer a file named "setupgr.exe"
(or whatever you change it to) to your computer. The standard download dialog (in your
internet browser) gives you a chance to change the filename or save-in directory.
It's best not to change the filename but you may want to specify the save-in folder so you
can easily find it later. |
 | After download completes and setupgr is on your hard disk, exit the internet and any
other programs your computer may be running. Then run setupgr.exe once only by
finding it on your computer (using Windows Explorer) in whatever folder it was saved in
and doubling clicking it. The setup will guide you through some screens to install Grin on
your hard drive. The easy way to get through the install screens is hit default answer
when asked any questions (usually hit ENTER key to accept the default).
Once setup is finished you should reboot your computer. The setup creates a folder for
Grin, puts an icon on the desktop and a shortcut on the Start | Programs Menu.
|
 | Optionally you can delete the setupgr.exe file since it is never used again. Of
course, it does not hurt to leave it there either. |
 | Once the install is complete and your computer is rebooted, then you can run Grin
anytime by simply double clicking the grin icon on the desktop. Remember the first time
you run the demo it asks for a password so email us to get a password.
